Answer: Because she forgot to put most of the sugar in.
I was aiming for a wholesome and semi-nutritious comfort food to go with the bronchitis, but was defeated by the narcotic cough syrup.

Yeah, blame the drugs. A likely story! Are you sure it was cough syrup and not pot? I saw a film (must've been documentary) where they smoked pot and played the piano very fast and were filled with murderous rages. On second thought, I'm glad it was just cough syrup and less-than-ideal coookies......
You were probably remembering that sugarless pumpkin pie you were served one Thanksgiving. You are just turning into your mother.
